By a mighty Thorax .
Seeked me out mission running in 0.2, I was in my abaddon. I'm basically L4 and L5 in any skill related to the Abaddon. Capacity size, recharge, hardners, armor repair, turrets. Everything! I was even using some named hardners.
Anyway, he warped to me and was at about 5,000km so I pretty much never landed a hit on him. I still died in 3-5 minutes but I had 3 npc BSs and other cruisers shooting me at the time.
Anyway, what is the point in getting a BS? My optimal range for Abaddon with Multifequency is 30+km. Any confromtation is going to be close up right? So should I just fit blasters for pvp?
This game does annoy me sometimes but I do love it. I mean in real life in the Navy a BS would be able to shoot a cruiser and kick the hell out of it. Yet in EVE a cruiser can pawn you with considerable ease given the right cicumstances. So why on earth would I want a BS? Or atleast a BS fitting with beam or pulse lasers? No ones ever going to seek me out and warp to me at 20-50km right? So surely the drake would be better all around or should I get another abaddon and refit it?
I'm unsure where to go at the moment. I'm thinking of getting back in a pvp drake because it's shields are crazy good, it can hit at over 60km and range doesn't have an issue really, close or distant.
I'm at a total loss...

Lets say I had a web. I move at 126ms. Does a web fit mid slot? I need all of those for cap or I can't tank at all.
Also, don't real BSs have smaller guns to hit at closer range? What about missiles? They can lauch those can't they? I don't know nearly as much as you though obviously!

Well if my optimal was 12km he'd have died in seconds. Do pirates just gamble on targets fittings? For all he knew I had 12km optimal range and he must have seen I was in an abaddon on his scanner.

dude, look at the tracking guide.... seriously
its about your tracking not your optimal range.
So you're telling me with the right tracking speed, I'd have hit him even with an optimum of 30km when he was sat dead still? My tracking is level 5! Surely range was a factor?

Good advice thanks.
But by the way, he was sat dead in space. Never orbited. I guess I'll look at pvp abaddon setups. Or be cheap and go back to my drake..
Can I assume if I was pvp fitted I'd have kicked his ass?

Edited by: Galactic Tycoon on 04/07/2008 12:00:05 Ok I understand what tracking is. I'm just trying to tell you I'm at level 5 motion prediction. I can't track any faster unless I use a tracking computer but as you know, the Abaddon needs all the cap recharge it can get.

Edited by: Galactic Tycoon on 05/07/2008 02:30:19 Yeah the first Raven I didn't even have an understanding of fitting...The second fitting lasted about 60 seconds against a drake who took not more than a graze from my cruise missiles. I use a suggested fitting from the forums. Still got killed easily though.
Everytime I die I just think...is this really the way forward for me? My recent loss will probably change the path of my training. I mean, isn't it generally better to just get a blaster boat? PVP will pretty much be close range. Or instead of blasters, missiles hit at a healthy range and work pretty good close up too.
A lot of people are asking me stuff so I'll just cram it in this post.
I didn't assume I have a big fat Abaddon therefore I'm going to own. I did see this guy come in system and having 5 corp mates and 3 alliance people in system I thought...he'd be stupid to engage me because surely he'd know I'd call my corp mates to help, and odds are a few would. They actually didn't and I yelled at them.
Also, I did align to a station and usually when I warp aligned I zip off right away. But I moved off course to counter a BSs movement and hey...pirate thieving moron shows up asking for 20m. It's just one of those things...I'll never pay a pirate though, as if he'd stop shooting if I paid anyway. It just sucks to get blown up, and that people want to make people feel like trash. I was mad with myself when I got blow up, it ruined my day and I kept thinking about what an idiot I was. I still am and I'm feeling so much rage towards that person now.
I'd pay for a bounty hunter because I love revenge but the last time I looked into this they wanted 100m in which I'd get 50M back if they failed to take him out. Hmm, slight kink in that offer for a customer. It would be so easy to take 100m and tell me a few days later they cant find him, heres 50m, ty for the 50m profit!
Anyway, thanks to everyone for the advice and the guy with the long message and pvp Abaddon setup. Much appreciated.
I forgot I still had a drake so I've set that up to tank and warp scram. My wingman is setup to use electronic warefare so hopefully we'll do ok with the setup variety the next time a pirate jumps into our system.

No probs you don't have to read it all....I did drag on.
The only thing I can't use on the Abaddon is Gleam or any tech II crystal or turret. I was probably going to do level 5 large energy turret but I think I'll just train BC up, heavy missiles, shield compensation etc.
Oh another thing. The Gallente who killed me was FW. Why is he spending time killing a non FW player. What is the point in signing up to faction war if Gallaente are going to shoot Caldari anyway.
